9-1-1: Lone Star

9-1-1: Lone Star Season 1 Recap

On Monday January 18th, 9-1-1: Lone Star and all our favorite characters are finally back for season 2.

But how did season 1 end up? Where were the characters at? What’s going to change in season 2? Let’s make a recap for each character, and maybe let’s also make some predictions for the new season!

[THIS ARTICLE MIGHT CONTAINT SPOILERS, IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE WHOLE FIRST SEASON OF THE SHOW, PLEASE BE AWARE]

Owen Strand

Captain Owen Strand moved to Austin at the beginning of the show in order to rebuild the 126 firehouse, taking with him his son T.K. Before leaving New York, he found out he has lung cancer. In the last episodes of season 1, he started dating Zoe, a Psychology professor and he had to go through pain and fear, after T.K. got shot.

We don’t know yet how his story with Zoe will develop in season 2, but so far (from the various trailers) we know that he’ll be again with his ex-wife, and T.K.’s mother, Gwyneth. Will that mean that he and Zoe broke up? Will we get to see some drama? I guess we’ll have to wait.

Also, what about his cancer? Will they just cut it off (figuratively speaking)? Will he magically heal and go back to his older self? That’s another question fans have been asking themselves.

T.K. Strand

T.K. moved to Austin, following his dad, at the beginning of the show. He also went through a bad breakup and an overdose. Once in Austin he met Carlos Reyes, and the two of them engaged a sort of relationship, with no strings attached tho.

T.K. had to deal with his recovery from both the breakup and the addiction, plus at the end of the season he got shot during a call by a seven-year-old boy.

In the last episode of season 1, he came out to the team, telling them all about his addiction and how he was questioning his career as a firefighter. But at the end of that speech, he decides to stay and keep doing his job (as soon as he’s healed. In the very last scene of the finale, we see him laying on top of Carlos’ car, the two of them finally together.

From the trailers for season 2, we found out Tarlos are canon, they’re boyfriends. What will be next for them?

Also, it will be interesting to see how T.K. is around his mum, will they be as close as T.K. is with his dad?

Carlos Reyes

At the beginning of the season, we see Carlos as a cop, as Michelle’s friend and as someone T.K. hooks up with.

All his scenes are either with T.K. or Michelle, mainly. So, we didn’t really have the chance to get a full picture of who Carlos Reyes really is (I mean, we know for sure he’s someone who cares for others and wears his heart on his sleeves, but we don’t know anything (yet) about his family, etc.).

We haven’t seen much of him yet, and I’m really curious about what the writers have in mind for this character.

Michelle Blake

Throughout season 1, Michelle has always been a strong woman, a EMT captain, very good at her job.

We find out pretty soon that she’s been looking for her sister, who went missing a few years before the show is set. This storyline goes on and on through all the 10 episodes, until in the season finale, Michelle finally finds Iris, finally closing the “missing person case”.

Unfortunately, we won’t see Michelle in season 2 (since Liv Tyler had to leave the show (possibly temporarily) due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which doesn’t allow her to travel much from the UK (where she and her family live) to the US). But, as far as we know, the writers might leave her character storyline open to a possible return in the next seasons. I’m really curious to see how they scripted her exit (my bet is that they’ll have her taking care of Iris, and temporarily leaving her job as EMT captain in order to do that).

Paul Strickland

We don’t know much about Paul, just that he’s from Chicago, he’s trans, and he’s very intuitive.

In season 1, he goes on a date with Josie, a girl he met on a call. But their story ends because Josie doesn’t feel ready to date someone who’s trans.

Will Paul find someone else, or why not, Josie, to date in season 2? What is next for him?

Judd Ryder

Judd is the only survivor of the original 126. At the beginning of season 1 he has to go to therapy, because he’s suffering from PTSD after seeing his old crew die.

He becomes a good friend to Owen, and a sort of big brother to T.K.

We see him and his wife, Grace, have some trouble in their relationship, all linked to Judd’s PTSD, but that seems to resolve kind of easily during the season.

What is next for Judd tho? If you ask me, it would be awesome to see him and Grace having a baby. It would be such a surprise to see a baby in the show!

Grace Ryder

As I just said, she’s Judd’s wife. She’s a 9-1-1 dispatcher and we, unfortunately, saw her just linked to her husband.

It would absolutely be nice to see her having more screen time, and maybe a storyline of her own! Maybe her being Carlos’ new friend after Michelle leaving? It would be nice!

Marjan Marwani

All we know about Marjan is that she’s from Miami, she’s a proud Muslim, and she’s a freaking badass firefighter.

Her storyline in season 1 is almost inconsistent, and that’s a pity, because she has a lot of potential.

My hope for season 2 is to see her more on my screen, and maybe getting her to date someone too!

Mateo Chavez

Mateo, as Paul and Marjan, doesn’t really have a storyline in the first season. All we know about him is that he’s from Austin, he’s a Dream-ER and he has dyslexia.

We see a little more of him in episode 6 of season 1, when he has to prepare and do his written exam to officially become a firefighter. I like that episode, because we finally saw the crew being really there for each other, helping each other.

I don’t really have any particular expectations for Mateo in season 2, so this will definitely be a surprise for me!

From the trailers and some announcements, we found out that there will be a new addition to the team, since they needed to replace Michelle as EMT captain. Plus, we know for sure we’ll meet Owen’s ex-wife and T.K.’s mum too.

Tommy Vega

Gina Torres as Tommy Vega

She’s the new EMT captain, and all we know about her so far is that she left her job as a paramedic to open a restaurant with his husband. But, due to the pandemic they had to close up the restaurant, and Tommy had to take back her old job in order to sustain her family.

We also know that she has two daughters.

I’m really excited to see this new character, mostly because I loved Gina Torres in Suits, so I’m curious to see her as a paramedic!

Gwyneth Morgan

Lisa Edelstein as Gwyneth Morgan

She’s T.K.’s mum and Owen’s first ex-wife. We know that she’s a good lawyer and that when T.K. got shot she was on a business trip.

Lisa Edelstein is a great actress, and I loved her in The Good Doctor (even though her role in that show was really small), plus she already worked with Rob Lowe in The West Wing, so it will be like a reunion between the two of them! I’m really looking forward to see her character and her relationship with T.K., mostly because I want to see how she’s around him and viceversa!

Season 2 premieres on Fox USA on Monday January 18th at 9/8c, right after the OG 9-1-1.

Now, this is all I got for now! Come back very soon for a review of the season 2 premiere!
